SONY AITE520 AIT-4 EXTERNAL TAPE DRIVE
Sony Electronics is now shipping its fourth-generation Advanced Intelligent Tape (AIT-4) drives and data media in volume through the reseller channel. Based on a compact 3.5-inch drive form factor using 8mm recording media, AIT-4 offers 200 GB of native storage capacity (520GB with 2.6: 1 compression) and a native data transfer rate of 24MB/second. AIT-4 media features an areal density of 1.17Gb/inch2, which is greater than any other magnetic tape media in the world. This remarkable areal density was achieved through a new tape formulation process, dubbed Advanced Metal Evaporated II (AME II). With volume shipments of AIT-4, Alan Sund, marketing director for tape storage solutions in Sony Electronics' Component and Business Solutions Division said that Sony is the only tape storage company to ship a total of four generations of drives and media within the same format simultaneously. SONY SDT-10000 DDS-4 INTERNAL TAPE DRIVE
Based on the latest DDS-4 technology, Sony's SDT-10000 internal drive provides 20 to 40GB capacity and a sustained data transfer rate of 4.8MB per second with data compression. This fast transfer rate means that you can back up 1GB of data in less than 4 minutes! The SDT-10000 provides an average access time of less than 55 seconds and a huge 10MB buffer for faster data streaming and compression. It is backward compatible with DDS-1, DDS-2, and DDS-3 cartridges to protect your investments in previous generation media. The SDT-10000 has several features to improve its reliability. The drive incorporates Sony's unique Hyper Metal head, which reduces error rates by up to 10 times compared to the ferrite Metal-In-Gap heads used in earlier DDS drives. It features Sony's patented Super Head Cleaner Mechanism, which automatically cleans the read/write heads after every 15 minutes of use to remove contamination - the greatest cause of tape drive failures. Its Super Air Flow Environment directs external airflow outside the drive and vents the tape path area to prevent dust and promote cooling. Finally, the SDT-10000 uses read after write data verification and roller tape path guides to reduce tape wear. SONY SDT-11000 DDS4 TAPE DRIVE
Information is the lifeblood of any business. And for small to mid-size organizations that store their data on single PCs, servers and local area networks, protecting that information is a vital concern. Hard drive failures, accidental deletion and power surges are only a few of the very real threats that can result in catastrophic data loss. Tape drives have long been the choice of businesses for backing up important data. However, as the capacities of today's desktop and server hard drives continue to expand, the performance demands placed on these solutions is also increasing. And while high-end solutions provide faster performance, they often come at a price that small and mid-size organizations can't afford. These businesses need cost-effective, reliable backup solutions that can keep pace with their expanding storage needs. Sony's family of DDS tape drives offers cost effective solutions for backing up small to mid-sized systems. These products deliver superior value in performance and reliability for applications from a single PC to a workstation or small network. SONY SDT-9000 12/24GB DDS3 TAPE DRIVE
SDT-9000 sets the standard for DDS-3 reliability by implementing a new Hyper Metal head, which can read back data at a higher signal output amplitude than the conventional ferrite heads used in DDS-2 drives. The signal-to-noise ratio is increased by approximately 4 decibels so that the SDT-9000 has an improved error correction rate, in spite of its higher recording density. In addition, the SDT-9000 incorporates Sony's Super Head Cleaner, which reduces the number of read and write errors further.
